Love this! A quaint row of houses of the dead in the foreground and a row of houses of the living behind. I took this photo at Graceland cemetery in Chicago in February of this year. It was about 21 degrees that day as I recall. Burrr!

Rachel Kaufman  for National Geographic News  Published February 8, 2012  A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. And a new species of Amorphophallus—the genus that includes the "corpse flower"—still smells like rotting meat and feces.  Discovered on an island off the coast of Madagascar, the newfound plant grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) high and blooms once a year with a "really foul" stench, according to discoverer Greg Wahlert, a postdoctoral researcher in botany at the University of Utah. Lynn Bohs, a biology professor in the same lab as Wahlert, described the smell in a statement as a combination of "rotting roadkill" and a "Porta Potty."
